Job Summary

This position will assist the Manager of Tourism and Events regarding tourism events in Shelby County and the region that enhance quality of life for residents and visitors. Primary duties include marketing and promoting Shelby County as a healthy county connecting health, welfare, and other community involvement programs.

Responsible for assisting the Manager of Tourism and Events in marketing, branding, promoting, and advertising of County initiatives, DiscoverShelby tourism initiatives, and amenities and assets within Shelby County.

Responsible for assisting the Executive Director of the Leadership Shelby County program in the planning and execution of the adult leadership program, youth leadership program, Board of Directors meetings, alumni events, and alumni communications.

Marketing and Branding Communications

Assists in the planning and execution for marketing and branding of tourism events including DiscoverShelby and DiscoverShelby.com, County parks and recreational opportunities, amenities, attractions, tourism-related facilities, and County activities.
Assists and markets the County’s image and programming through communications to include press releases, social and multimedia, and events to both internal and external customers.
Helps to identify needs and creates materials to help promote general awareness of county activities.
Assists in sourcing and creating content across various social media platforms and DiscoverShelby.com .
Assists in creating organic social media campaigns to garner inspiration and drive visitation to Shelby County.
Develops, updates and implements a content calendar.
Assists County departments and partner with public information and media efforts.
Markets the activities, events, and accomplishments of partners to reach overarching county promotion.
Seeks and participates in skills development; professional training; and changing methods of delivery of marketing, social media, and subject branding.
Events Planning

Assists and helps maintain a database of event spaces, athletic venue assets, meeting assets, hotels, and all other tourism-related facilities within the county, including municipal facilities.
Assists and help maintain a database of event participation data for high attendance venues.
Assists and help maintain a database of all county and municipal assets that can assist with event promotion, management, and execution.
Helps secure and/or coordinate space reservations and coordinate materials, staffing, event setup, and cleanup.
Assists in theme, demo, and exhibit space layout for events.
Helps organize required catering services, room setup, and communication equipment setup.
Helps track event finances, deliverables, and closeout procedures.
Leadership Shelby County

Assists the Executive Director with daily activities, marketing, and development of the Leadership Shelby County (LSC) program.
Assists the Executive Director with planning and coordination of the Opening Retreat, class days, and Graduation for the adult and youth programs.
Assists the Executive Director with LSC Board meetings.
Assists the Executive Director of LSC with the Alumni board with event planning.
Assists with outreach efforts to LSC Alumni including training, communications, and informational events.
Performs all duties in a safe and efficient manner.
Performs all other duties as assigned by supervision.
Although the maximum rate of pay for this position is $82,992.00, the average starting rate of pay will generally be in the $60,590.40 - $66,206.40 range.

Blue Cross/Blue Shield health insurance is offered at less than $40 per month for Single coverage and less than $100 per month for Family coverage.

Qualifications and Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Marketing, Digital Marketing, Merchandising, Mass Communication, Public Relations or related disciplines from an accredited college or university.
1-year experience in event coordination, content creation, and/or marketing activities.
1-year experience in event coordination, management, marketing, or related function with a proven track record of successfully executing related goals.
1-year experience in marketing and branding of events and/or organizations.
Strong social media skills in Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and other currently used platforms.
Ability to multi-task and handle various operations simultaneously.
Ability to work independently while maintaining effective working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, vendors, partners, and the general public.
Strong organizational and office skills.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Valid Driver’s license and acceptable driving record.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS

Experience with web page organization and updating.
Experience with branding and creative design
Experience with Quickbooks or other budget management software
Photography skills and video editing

Physical Demands & Work Environment

WORKING CONDITIONS Work is performed in an office environment 70%-80% of the time and at event sites 20%-30% of the time. Event site work may demand prolonged periods of standing or walking outdoors and some exposure to extreme weather conditions. Must be available to work outside standard business hours to include some night or weekend work at various events. Must be willing to travel for training purposes.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Work is moderate in nature and consists of walking, standing, bending, and carrying. Some work requires prolonged walking or standing both indoors and outdoors. A high volume of stress involved with dealing with the public and customer complaints.
