Job Overview

The Practice and Operations Manager directs and supervises the operations and administrative functions within their department and sections within Children’s Hospital Colorado (CHCO). This position is responsible for the high level functions of the day-to-day business operations in their department or division. This role directly interfaces with other organization support functions. This position is for Developmental Pediatrics and Sie Center.



No direct patient care.


Practice Administration

Manages and approves faculty expenditures while keeping track of Continuing Medical Education allowances for providers. Measures providers’ clinical productivity (wRVUs), count of clinical sessions/shifts, and amount of clinical time against benchmarks.
Monitors, reports, and ensures compliance of physician faculty in government and private payer incentive programs. Tracks provider funding allocations to determine effort dedicated to clinical, administrative, research, and education activities. Manages and coordinates Telemedicine support for providers.
Works closely with practice plan (CU-Medicine) to optimize physician billing practices, audit for documentation accuracy, and identify billing opportunities. Partners with grant specialists to track pre-award and post-award grant activities. Contract management through CU-Medicine’s Egnyte system or CHCO eTracts.
Partners with Clinic Medical Directors to accomplish clinic-specific goals in ambulatory setting related to quality, growth, and patient satisfaction. Represents department and acts as liaison to the CHCO Providers, Faculty Practice Organization. Assists in leading ambulatory initiatives.
Facilitates and manages the faculty and Graduate Medical Education (GME) recruitment process which includes creating business plans and recruitment templates, determining funding for positions, creating job postings, managing interviews and selection process, creating job descriptions, completing non-compete contracts, obtaining credentials and completing the on-boarding process. Maintains provider credentials/recredentialing process.
Identifies and assists in the resolution of any problems which may arise between patients, support staff, physicians, and other departments. Supports clinical, operational and facility services for department(s). Provides direction for operations including the faculty practice and ancillary teams (i.e., scheduling, admin, etc.). Manages master clinic schedule.
Provides and organizes staff training; Keeps all staff informed of all department specific policies and procedures; Ensures staff's adherence to CHCO policies such as HIPAA and billing compliance protocols. Hires and evaluates staff; arranges staff coverage; prepares staff evaluations; implements disciplinary actions; conducts routine staff meetings to guide and direct activities; enhances communication and foster a team environment.
Collaborates in planning and facilitating efficient patient care services to ensure quality and customer satisfaction. Collaborates with clinical managers to identify process improvement opportunities for patient flow, clinical efficiencies, and care team optimization.
Manages the hospital and practice budget and monitors expenses to ensure that the budget is adhered to during the fiscal year. Assists in the preparation of the hospital and Department of Pediatrics annual budget, restricted funds and all other financial reporting. Oversight of PPS arrangement between School of Medicine and CHCO.
Provides project management leadership by creating charters (when applicable), timelines, milestones, and goals and objectives for projects and programs. Keeps projects on time and on task. Engages appropriate managers and coordinators in project management process and works to achieve active buy-in from stakeholders.
Determines necessary space, equipment, supplies and support systems to ensure effective functioning of unit/department. Facilitate space planning efforts.

Strategy & Planning

Partners to develop business plans that support program development, assesses progress of plans and prepares quarterly update presentations.
Develops, executes and provides oversight of outreach programs. Serves as the key contact for the Physicians Relations department to cultivate support from specialists to implement Primary Care Provider outreach strategies.
Actively participates in the development and execution of strategic business planning regarding business and clinical operations, including practice expansion, practice model changes, and etc.
Participates in growing new referrals, assessing patient out-migration, defining targets and establishing key messages. Works closely with Hospital Foundation to identify areas of philanthropic support and potential donor opportunities.
Prepares, analyzes, monitors, and communicates financial and statistical reports to appropriate business entity. Provides reports on patients' satisfaction and reviews and implements customer service initiatives to address opportunities for increased customer satisfaction.

Complexity: Work assignment is unstructured and leader is responsible for implementing and managing a variety of objectives, resources, and initiatives to achieve the goals of the function. Duties performed include operational planning; developing standards, priorities, guidelines, processes, measurement (evaluation) systems; implementation of production and performance management standards; and allocating resources. Work is tactical and operational in nature.
Decision Making: Employee is responsible for planning, organizing, allocating resources, ensuring compliance with procedures, and achieving the objectives of the function.
Communication: Communication at this level is primarily internally focused and involves establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with team members, peers, directors, and executives. Provides guidance and interpretation of the enterprise’s policies, procedures, and standards. Provides information to higher-level directors and executives.
Supervision Received: Responsible for achieving the objectives of function within the scope of established guidelines. Employee is expected to resolve problems that arise in the normal course of the work. Work is reviewed for soundness of judgment and feasibility of decisions.

EDUCATION – Bachelors’ degree in Administration, Health Care Administration, Management, Finance or related field.
EXPERIENCE – Minimum 3 years of relevant health care/business experience and one year of supervisory experience.
EQUIVALENCY – Professional experience, beyond requirements, in a related field may substitute for a Bachelor degree requirement on a year for year basis. Master’s or higher degree in a related field may substitute for the experience requirements on a year for year basis. Completion of Master’s degree Fellowship Program may substitute for the one year of experience.

Salary Information

Annual Salary Range (Based on 40 hours worked per week): $84,412.24 to $126,618.36
Hourly Salary Range: $40.58 to $60.87
