Examples of Work

Process criminal and non-criminal records by requesting, accepting, processing and verifying information from arresting agencies and court dispositions, utilizing the Patrol Criminal History and other criminal justice databases, as well as telephone and fax. Process teletype record checks by receiving, sorting and disseminating criminal history information over the teletype system. Capture fingerprints and process applications and conduct criminal history background checks for Concealed Handgun permits and other civil applicants. Receive payments and prepare bank deposits. Be an integral team member and assist with daily functions and projects as requested; and other duties as directed by the Patrol Division Lieutenant.

Qualifications / Requirements

REQUIREMENTS: Coursework/training in administrative/office support functions, procedures, and methods including the operation of personal computers and office equipment; or areas related to the programs and functions of the employing agency OR experience in customer service or public contact; or applying criteria/regulations; and/or performing administrative/office/secretarial support work including use of personal computers and office equipment. PREFERRED: Experience with Microsoft Office Software; law enforcement/criminal justice record keeping; fingerprinting subjects, ink/livescan equipment, and database management.

OTHER: Regular and reliable attendance is expected. Applicants will be screened for a record of criminal activity and criminal history using a fingerprint-based check, before a final offer of employment is made. Applicants must be free of felony convictions. Applicants cannot maintain a continuous association or dealings with persons, groups, or organizations that they know, or should know are persons or groups or organizations under criminal investigation or indictment or who have a reputation for present, ongoing involvement in felonious or criminal behavior. Applicant must successfully complete an extensive background screening prior to being employed, which includes completion of a Personal History Questionnaire. Selection process will include an interview.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

KNOWLEDGE OF: office procedures, administrative work assigned to the position, sources of information pertinent to the assigned work; accounting procedures; and the principles and practices of record keeping.

SKILL IN: strong and effective communications skills including knowledge of English grammar, spelling, etc.

ABILITY TO: communicate in person and by telephone, computer, email, or correspondence to exchange information and ideas; work independently with limited supervision; gather, compile, generate, and disseminate information; interact and maintain a close working relationship with diverse individuals and groups to include: law enforcement agencies, agency administrative personnel, and the public is essential. Learn the organizational structure, mission, and activities of the State Patrol; learn agency policies and procedures pertinent to the work assigned.
