Job Information
Open to the general public and any current Municipal employee.

This is a non-represented position (no union affiliation) and is subject to the provisions of the Personnel Rules of the Municipality of Anchorage.

HOURS OF WORK: Monday through Friday; 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
LOCATION: 632 W. 6th Avenue

Example of Duties
Process incoming property tax payments for posting and daily deposit. Receive and process tax certificate applications for mobile homes for accurate pay-off and issuance of tax certificates. Maintain filing of property tax documents. Prepare refunds for personal property tax overpayments and return checks unable to apply. Assist customers by phone and in-person regarding municipal property taxes. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent, and eighteen* (18)* months of clerical accounting experience, one (1) year of which was at the Accounting Clerk I level with the Municipality of Anchorage, or the equivalent elsewhere.

(Example of Accounting Clerk I duties: Compile and create source documents necessary for input into municipal billing systems or automated financial record systems, maintain files, examine, code, and voucher invoices or documents for payment and prepare simple statistical reports.)

Ability to type at a net speed of 35 WPM and 10 key at a net speed of 150 KSPM.

NOTE: In order to be considered, official certification of ability to type 35 WPM AND official certification of 10 key speed (current within the past (1) year) MUST be attached to the application.* Documentation or certification results must clearly indicate the applicant's name and date.*


  • Experience working with Municipal taxation and/or assessments
  • Proficient working with Word, Excel and Outlook

If selected for hire, the appointment in this position will be conditional based upon a satisfactory Municipal Employment Office conducted background check. A background check encompasses criminal history, verifying education, and verifying dates of employment.

In order to be considered, all certifications must be attached to the application.
All required certifications and licenses must remain current for the duration of employment.
Military Service Interview Preference:
Veterans or who wish to be considered for interview preference as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D must attach to the application a copy of their DD Form 214, DD Form 256, NGB Form 22, or a letter from the US Department of Veterans Affairs recognizing the person as a veteran. The attached documentation must show an honorable discharge or general (under honorable conditions) discharge. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.
Individuals currently serving as a member in good standing in the National Guard or the organized military reserves who wish to be considered for interview preference as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D must attach proof of current service to the application. Proof of current service can be shown by submission of a statement of service which, at a minimum, shows full name, date of birth, Social Security Number, date service began, branch of service, rank, name of command providing the information, and unit of assignment. The statement of service must be on a form or letterhead of the individual’s command organization and show the name, signature, title and contact information for the signer providing the statement of service. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.
