The Iowa State Fair Police Department is currently accepting applications for Armed Security Officers to work during the 2022 Iowa State Fair. The applicant must be willing to work a 9-hour day for the entire 11 day state fair. Lodging assistance may be provided for applicants who commit to all 11 days, live more than 50 miles from the Des Moines and are unable to procure housing on their own. The dates for the 2022 Iowa State Fair are August 11-21, 2022.
Applicant must be a previous or retired peace officer in good standing. Applicants will also be required to attend some in service training leading up to the state fair and must also shoot and pass the ILEA firearms qualification course for police officers with an Iowa State Fair Police Department firearms instructor. Applicants will also be fingerprinted and a background check will be conducted. Additionally, there may be other opportunities throughout the year for part time work during major events, when necessary, to maintain a safe and secure environment, however, this is not guaranteed.
