Description

Hennepin County is hiring one or more Career Probation/Parole Officers within the Investigations unit of the Juvenile Probation division in the Department of Community Corrections and Rehabilitation (DOCCR). These positions will be responsible for the completion of pre-plea reports, pre-disposition reports, extended jurisdiction juvenile studies and certification studies as ordered by the Juvenile Court and attend any related Court hearings. This unit also completes Home Studies for Interstate and Intrastate requests.

Location and hours:
These positions are hybrid and will be performed both on-site at the Human Services Building, 525 Portland Avenue, Suite 260, Minneapolis, MN 55415 and remote as job duties require. Work hours are generally 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with flexibility.

Effective September 1, 2021, all new job offers are conditional based on the candidate being fully vaccinated for COVID-19. “Fully vaccinated” means 14 days after receiving the second dose in a two-dose vaccination series approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on a full or emergency-use basis, or 14 days after receiving a single-dose vaccine approved by the FDA on a full or emergency-use basis. After a conditional job offer is made, the candidate must show proof of full vaccination prior to their start date. A COVID-19 vaccination card from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), a vaccination record from your doctor’s office or a personal digital vaccination record constitutes sufficient “proof.” The candidate must also attest they are vaccinated by completing a form on the first day of employment. Reasonable accommodations to this vaccination requirement will be considered upon request by a candidate for medical or religious reasons as required by applicable law.

In these positions, you will:
Write certification/extended jurisdiction juvenile investigations, pre-plea investigations and homes studies for inter/intra state transfer requests.
Perform criminal history checks by assessing multiple criminal justice databases.
Contact victims, interview clients and parents/guardian, and contact collaterals to verify information.
Write in-depth reports, complete assessment tools, present reports to the Court, and testify in hearings.
Present cases to the Out of Home Placement team and complete sentencing guideline worksheets.

Need to have:
One of the following:
Associates degree in any field and eight or more years of relevant full-time equivalent paid or volunteer work experience with clients served by the justice system or human services.
Bachelor's degree in non-related field and six or more years of relevant full-time equivalent paid or volunteer work experience with clients served by the justice system or human services.
Bachelor's degree in sociology, social work, criminal justice, psychology, counseling, law enforcement, education, or a related field and five or more years of relevant full-time equivalent paid or volunteer work experience with clients served by the justice system or human services.
Master's degree or higher in one of the above areas; including completion of a supervised clinical field work training/internship (if required by the degree program); and three or more years of relevant full-time equivalent paid or volunteer work experience with clients served by the justice system or human services.
Note: The Evidence Based Practice Corrections Professional Certificate may be substituted for one year of relevant experience.

Nice to have:
Experience working as a probation or parole officer.
Experience appearing and presenting information in Court.
Working knowledge of CSTS and other systems, such as, EFile, MGA, MNCIS, Unity, Teams, and Zoom.

Ability to:
Apply motivational interviewing skills.
Assess and interpret risk assessment information.
Establish and maintain rapport with other Juvenile Justice Partners.
Effectively serve and interact with individuals from social, economic and culturally diverse backgrounds.
Excellent communication skills and well organized, detail oriented, and comfortable with evolving technology.

Under facility licensing requirements, positions at the Juvenile Detention Center are required to undergo a Department of Human Services Background Study (MS 245C.13). Convictions for certain crimes will have an effect on your ability to be hired according to the disqualification schedule listed in Minnesota Statute 245C.15. Individuals convicted for any level of Criminal Sexual Conduct are disqualified from being hired into any position within the DOCCR under the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA). Other past involvement with the criminal court system will not automatically disqualify you from working at the DOCCR; individual circumstances are reviewed and evaluated confidentially.
