The University of Southern Maine’s Theatre Department is seeking a Director of Production/Technical Director for our Gorham Campus and welcomes the opportunity to speak with you about this opportunity.

Through a wide-ranging production season, inter-disciplinary collaborations, community and school outreach, and interactive theatre experiences, the University of Southern Maine’s Department of Theatre contributes to the rich cultural, creative, and artistic life of the greater Portland area and the state of Maine. The Director of Production/Technical Director oversees construction of all sets and properties; assesses and executes the technical needs for the main stage theatre productions and events in the USM Russell Hall Theatre; budgets and schedules the four - six productions sponsored by the USM Department of Theatre; supervises and instructs student stagecraft practicums; collaborates with theatre faculty and staff on season selection and department operations. The timely and satisfactory completion of these duties is necessary for the mounting of USM productions and the instruction of students in the accepted theatre industry practices.

This is full-time, 11-month appointment position (July off) with an annual salary up to $42,778 commensurate with experience. This position is located on our Gorham Campus.

Bachelor's degree in technical theater arts, dance, music, or related field combined with solid experience in stage and/or production management; stage carpentry; stage rigging or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge of and commitment to appropriate safety precautions/procedures and current industry practices.
Ability to accomplish (at times as heavy as 40 lbs.) lifting, climbing, pushing, pulling, as needed for essential functions.
Supervisory, leadership and/or teaching experience.
Computer literacy, including Microsoft Word and Excel and/or Google equivalent.
