This is a Full-Time 40 Hours Weekly position with the Department of Labor and Regulation. For more information on the Department of Labor and Regulation, please visit https://dlr.sd.gov/.

Typical office environment. Will conduct duties outside of the office (i.e. schools, businesses, events). All Career Advisor positions are expected to work from the office as remote work is not an option.

We are is seeking a Career Advisor to provide career advice services and coordinate work-based learning experiences in selected middle and high schools. All Career Advisor positions are expected to work from the office as remote work is not an option. This position will facilitate and/or coordinate career development services for middle and high school students in our 4-County territory.

Career Advisor duties include, but not limited to:
soft skills curriculum implementation;
career-based presentations;
career interest surveys and aptitude assessments (such as SDMyLife and the National Career Readiness Certificate);
aligning interest and aptitude with personal learning plans on SDMyLife;
labor market information and job searching;
post-high school plans;
educate on and connect with Workforce Investment & Opportunity Act (WIOA) services;
determine eligibility, development of employment plans, and provision of services to WIOA youth participants;
establish connections and partnerships with regional business and industry;
serve as a liaison between businesses, educators and students to coordinate work-based learning opportunities (examples: industry tours, guest speakers, job shadows, internships, mentor relationship, etc.);
build relationships with post-secondary providers in the area and connect students to these opportunities;
connect area employers with students at the school to create work-based learning opportunities;
administrative duties;
assess the career development needs of schools and develop an implementation plan to provide such services;
determine which services should be provided that aren’t being provided currently by school personnel to avoid duplication of offered services;
documentation of service delivery.

This position works as an employee of the SD Department of Labor & Regulation. The majority of this position's time is spent outside of the office. Travel to communities and schools is required. Some evening and weekend hours may be required but will be uncommon.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
A bachelor's degree in related coursework is preferred.
NCRC: If you possess a National Career Readiness Certificate, please submit the certificate with your application. A score of gold or higher is preferred.
It is very important for candidates to be able to use a personal computer, have specific knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, Access, and have the ability to work with various software programs.

career counseling, case management, interviewing and counseling techniques;
program eligibility requirements under WIOA;
principles of human behavior and motivation;
employment programs and community resources;
labor market and economic conditions in a local area;
marketing techniques to employers and human resource professionals to build effective working relationships;
knowledge of local educational, social services and support services offered in our community.
build and maintain effective working relationships with employers, program partners, students, school administrators/teachers, and co-workers;
effectively work with program participants who may have barriers to employment;
complete high-quality work with appropriate technology (examples: Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, Google Drive, webinars, online surveys/forms).
provide engaging and meaningful career development services including classroom presentations and individual conversations with students;
teach job search and career exploration workshops;
consistently prioritize competing demands and follow through to completion;
use all technology available to manage communication with students, program partners, and co-workers;
maintain student confidentiality;
develop and maintain professional relationships with students, program partners, and co-workers;
accurately maintain all required documentation, notes and follow-up attempts;
communicate information clearly.
