Job Summary
This position under general supervision will maintain, repair, or construct walls, partitions, foundations, footings and other structures built of stone, brick, block, tile or concrete. Cut openings in walls, floors, and finished exposed surfaces for repairs or modifications. Repair masonry joints, structures, floors, and patch damaged areas of walkways, stairs, bridges, and catch basins. Mix, pour and finish concrete.

Job Responsibilities

  • Repair Work - Repair masonry joints, structures, floors, and patch damaged areas of walkways, stairs, bridges, and catch basins.
  • Finished Concrete Work - Construct walls, partitions, foundations, footings and other structures built of stone, brick, block, tile or concrete.
  • Administrative - Utilize computer-based work order system for job asks, initiate work requests to other trades or divisions, and document work/inspections. Order materials and supplies using the County procurement program.
  • Inspect Masonry Structures - Perform inspections of department assets for maintenance needs; perform routine and emergency repairs of buildings and structures.
  • General Small Tool Maintenance and Repair - Keep all power equipment and hand tools in working condition and consistent with trade standards.
  • Lead Crew Members – Lead crew members on concrete or block work projects. Direct the work and train non-trades personnel assisting with concrete construction projects.
  • Ability to properly or safely operate: Pickup trucks (rated at under 26,000 GVW), saws, drills, wrenches, tape measures, concrete tools, and air hammers.
  • Ability to push, pull, carry and lift up to 60 lbs.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Education, License/Certification and Experience
  • Current residency within the State of Wisconsin required
  • Valid Wisconsin Driver’s License required and must be maintained throughout employment
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalency required
  • One (1) year or more of work experience as a Cement Journeyman required
  • Completion of an Apprenticeship as a Cement Mason or closely related field required
  • Basic knowledge of all related computer and software applications such as Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel required
Note: This Original Examination is open to current residents of the State of Wisconsin. In accordance with Rule III section 11 of the Civil Service Rules a non-competitive examination will be held for this position. The non-competitive examination will consist of a review of candidate materials, education and related experience.
