Job Summary

The DNR is seeking to fill one (1) seasonal, part-time (80%) Buildings & Grounds Worker position at Scenic State Park. Days and hours of work will vary and includes evenings, weekends, and holidays. Anticipated season dates are May 11th through October 11th, each year.

This position performs a variety of tasks involved in providing night security and maintaining the grounds, facilities, and equipment at Scenic State Park. This position also supports Button Box, Thistledew, Bear Lake, Togo Horse Camp, Owen Lake, Lost Lake, and Larson Lake Forest Recreation Areas.

Responsibilities include:
Enforcement and Emergency Services: routine patrol; enforce rules and regulations; maintain security log; respond to emergencies.
Public Relations: provide information to visitors about the park facilities, services, and activities; inform others of park policies, rules, and regulations.
Grounds Maintenance: mow various areas of the park; trim trees and shrubs; dispose of waste materials; perform various trail building and maintenance tasks; clean fire rings.
Facility and Building Maintenance: clean floors, walls, windows, bathroom facilities, and fixtures; dispose of waste materials; restock buildings with cleaning supplies; repair or replace window screens, doors, locks, roofs, and fixtures; maintain picnic tables, fire grills, plumbing, carpenter tasks; inspect fire extinguishers; bundle, stack, and deliver firewood for resale.
Equipment and Vehicle Maintenance: routine maintenance and minor repairs on hand tools; wash and wax vehicles; complete reports and forms on use and repairs.
Resource Management: control various pests through the use of pesticides; assist in prescribed burns; assist in completion of approved projects.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
Ability to effectively communicate with the public and other employees.
Ability to operate or be certified/trained to operate toolcat, heavy equipment, snow blower, ATV, chain saw, tree planter, stump remover, and lawn mower.
Ability to use small hand tools and other equipment and tools sufficient to perform assigned duties correctly and safely.
Ability to read and comprehend instructions on labels, in instruction manuals, and procedures sufficient to use materials/chemicals correctly and safely.
Ability to operate a phone, two way radio, computer, and other office equipment.
Ability and willingness to work alone at night in remote areas of the park.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience performing routine maintenance and repair of small engines, vehicles, and other equipment and tools.
Work experience cleaning, maintaining, and/or repairing buildings.
Work experience with grounds maintenance.
Knowledge of park rules, policies, and facilities.
Security experience and training.
First Aid and CPR training.
Physical Requirements

Occasionally lifting articles such as 50 pound bags of feed maximum and frequently lifting and/or carrying objects such as heavy tools and file boxes. This job may require walking or standing to a significant degree on rough terrain or may involve sitting most of the time with pushing and pulling of arm and/or leg controls.

Additional Requirements

This position requires an unrestricted Class D Driver’s License with a clear driving record.
