This is a part-time position.

Job Summary:
Core responsibilities of this position include:
The Recreation Facility Monitor is a part-time non-benefitted position that monitors the Recreation and Athletic Center (RAC) facility and provides assistance to employees and students as necessary. This position interacts with a wide range of users including LCCC employees, students, and community individuals. This position supports the overall operations of the RAC including but not limited to assisting in preparing areas of usage for classes and/or athletic practices; monitoring facility usage; resolving customer concerns; reporting inoperable equipment/safety concerns; and general cleaning of equipment/areas. Individuals in this position will be expected to represent the Department and LCCC in a professional manner.

Other tasks may be assigned based on contemporary institutional need.

Compensation: $10.27 per hour, commensurate with experience.

Screening Date: Position is open until filled.

Start Date: As soon after screening as practical.

Essential Functions:
Essential Functions:
Assist in monitoring the facility, patrons, groups and equipment while ensuring a safe environment
Assist in setting up and taking down equipment including but not limited volleyball nets, tennis nets, and moving portable basketball baskets
Assist in facility and equipment maintenance including cleaning of treadmills, benches and other related fitness equipment
Reorganize fitness equipment as needed to insure a safe environment for all users
Check users for college identification, sign guests of users into facility and make appropriate identification cards as need
Complete hourly usage forms including head counts
Support the general operations of the facility
Provide general customer service to patrons including assisting individuals who are new to the facility and are not sure how to operate fitness equipment
Immediately report inoperable/unsafe equipment or conditions to the area supervisor
Immediately report any injuries to the area supervisor

Nonessential Functions:
An employee in this position may perform some of these responsibilities on an infrequent basis:

Attend necessary division, department, and/or program meetings/trainings
Support and assist with college events and programs

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
General knowledge and ability of to learn the usage of various fitness equipment (elliptical, recumbent bike, etc.)
Ability to interact with a wide variety of users ranging from Children’s Discovery Center employees and children to senior citizens
Excellent customer service skills; ability to communicate clearly with a variety of people
Ability to support time-based requests; able to function effectively in a multi-tasking, fast-paced environment with deadlines, frequent interruptions, and some interpersonal pressure
Knowledge of basic office equipment including (but not limited to) personal computer and associated peripherals, fax machine, multi-line telephone, voice recorders, and other electronic devices
Ability to effectively and professionally execute the essential functions of this position with proven capabilities in establishing appropriate professional rapport, communicating with courtesy and tact, accurately determine others needs, collecting necessary information, and follow-through when requested
Ability to read and interpret instructions in oral, written, or diagrammatical form (e.g., a flow chart of a process) and consider possible applications to the area of responsibility

Physical/Mental Demands:
The ability to comply with highly inflexible deadlines is required to successfully perform the essential functions of this position; there will be multiple occurrences of sudden, urgent task completion required
While performing the essential functions of this position a variable work schedule may be required including long workdays, evenings, and weekends as needed
There may be occurrences of interacting with employees and/or students, past employees and/or students, members of the general public, and others who express opinions, may exhibit strong emotions, which will require the employee to interact professionally, diplomatically, and appropriately in such situations

  • While performing the essential duties of this position, an employee would frequently be required to move around the assigned work areas as well as within hallways, meeting rooms, and other parts of the campus facilities
The work environment for this position requires the ability to work in a gym/recreation area which may include long periods of standing, sitting, frequent bending, kneeling, crouching, and the ability to respond quickly to an active athletic environment (i.e. basket balls being thrown, running patrons, quickly changing environment, etc.)
  • An employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds to perform essential position functions. Lifts exceeding 50 pounds require team lift technique
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus
The overall work environment requires the mental ability to shift focal point quickly due to interruptions; an employee must be able to mentally track multiple projects and tasking as well
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate; however, there may be unexpected instances of somewhat loud sounds

Qualifications:
Minimum:
High School Diploma or Equivalent
Ability to lift up to 50lbs
A currently enrolled LCCC student carrying a minimum of 6 hours beginning with the upcoming semester

Preferred:
One year of experience working in a athletic facility setting
