This exam includes the standards required for the Department's compliance with the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) of 2003.

The Idaho Department of Correction is current recruiting for a Construction Foreman for the South Boise Complex. This position supervises crews performing construction, repair, and maintenance of buildings and related structures at the state correctional facilities and performs related work. The incumbent must be able to lift and carry items weighing approximately 90 pounds, climb ladders, and work in all types of weather conditions.

Hiring lists may be created from open competitive, IDOC Department Promotional, or Statewide promotional applicants. The applications may also be used for future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months.

Example of Duties

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reviews construction project plans and blueprints
Consults with project engineers and supervisor to identify problems with proposed projects
Develops construction crew work schedules and supervises crew
Determines construction material and replacement parts; orders supplies and equipment
Arranges for contractors, materials, and equipment mobilization as necessary
Maintains custody of inmates while on work projects and conducts searches for weapons, tools and contraband
Trains, monitors, directs, and evaluates performance of tradesmen and inmate workers
Supervises and performs construction, repair, and remodeling of structures

Minimum Qualifications

Some knowledge of supervisory practices
Valid driver's license
Experience in: building construction, remodeling, and maintenance; reading and interpreting blueprints and construction specifications for the purpose of constructing and maintaining structures and buildings; using hand and power tools commonly used in the construction trade, operating heavy equipment, and performing maintenance on construction vehicles and equipment

Supplemental Information

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Class "A" Commercial Driver's License
Good knowledge of and various crafts such as electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and carpentry

Completing a Background Investigation Questionnaire and pre-employment drug testing
Having a federal and state criminal background check to include fingerprints
Having a history of law-abiding behavior
Felonies, misdemeanors, illegal drug usage, DUI's, adverse driving convictions and employment history may make you ineligible for employment
