Purpose of Position
Interviews are anticipated to be conducted within two weeks of closing date.
Why does the job exist?
This position operates heavy duty equipment to maintain rural / interstate roads.

This position is with the South Urban Patrol.
How does it get done?
This position operates a single axle dump truck, large or small front-end loaders, pull type tractors. Operates self propelled brooms and rollers. Will perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled maintenance duties required in the patrol. Use of various hand tools. Knowledge and experience in snow removal and emergency operations (call outs). Removal of trash and dead animals from right of way.

The traveling public, internal and external customers.
Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have experience in the following:

  • Snow removal operations and emergency operations (call outs)
  • Experience in traffic control, fence maintenance, and guardrail repair
  • Removal of trash and dead animals from right of way
  • Use of various hand tools.
Preference will be given to applicants with Class "A" CDL.
Minimum Qualification
Eighth grade education. Must possess a New Mexico Driver's License, and must acquire a New Mexico Class B CDL within 6 months of hire. Substitutions Apply. See Substitution Table below.

Statutory Requirement:
Must possess a New Mexico Drivers License and must acquire a New Mexico Class B CDL within 6 months of hire. Post-offer Physical and Pre-Employment Drug Test are required for safety sensitive classifications.
Employment Requirements
This position is designated a safety sensitive position within the meaning of the Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act of 1991 and must abide by all provisions of the Federal Omnibus Transportation Testing Act. Employment is subject to pre-employment and random drug testing, in accordance with all terms and conditions of federal and state law, rules and regulations in relation to alcohol and/or drug testing. Employment requires successful completion of a post-offer physical and pre-employment drug test; employment is conditional pending results. Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License, and must have or obtain a New Mexico Class B Commercial Driver's License within six (6) months of hire. Tanker Endorsement may be required. Business reference check and Driver's License verification are also required and employment is conditional pending results. Must successfully pass demonstrated abilities test with a 65% or better.
Working Conditions
Executive Order 2021-066 requires all employees with the State of New Mexico to provide either proof of COVID-19 vaccination (including proof of a booster dose of vaccine by January 17, 2022, or within four weeks of becoming eligible for a booster dose) or proof of a COVID-19 viral test every week.

The Public Health Order (on Vaccination) dated December 2, 2021, requires Congregate Care Facility Workers and Hospital Workers to have received a primary series of vaccination by October 6, 2021, and a booster dose of vaccine by January 17, 2022, or within four weeks of becoming eligible for a booster.

Work is performed primarily in the field in varying weather conditions - hot or cold, humidity, wind, rain and snow; exposure to sunlight, dust, pollen, chemicals, rough/rugged terrain, insects and reptiles, noxious plants and infected trash; exposure to moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, toxic fumes/chemicals and/or airborne particles, hazardous chemicals and/or asphalt and petroleum products; exposure to temperatures up to 150 degrees around oil distributor operations; high speed/high volume traffic and loud noises; subject to falls and bruises, considerable physical strain; standing for extended periods of time doing traffic control or walking long distances for litter control; hand dexterity required for some duties; numerous specific vision abilities to include: close, distance, color and peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus; some climbing, reaching, kneeling and crawling to perform job duties; ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Work may also be performed in an office setting with exposure to visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and telephone usage to include working with faxes, copiers and printers. May be required to work irregular hours and is subject to call out for weather, accidents and/or emergencies on short notice; willingness to accept change of geographical assignments; interaction with the public.
