Job Summary

Detroit Salt Company are hiring Production Miners. The selected candidate will operate mobile equipment and related mining equipment for the surface & underground mine. This person will perform all assigned tasks and instructions safely and competently. Ensure that the machinery and safety equipment are in good working order, and maintain a high standard of housekeeping in their workplace. This is a full-time position with excellent benefits including vacation time, insurance package and 401(k) plan, along with eligibility for monthly bonuses. Starting pay begins at $20.50 per hour.

Responsibilities & Accountability

Work safely, responsibly and follow all safety policies, procedures, and regulations. Is alert to hazards and changing conditions on all mine property.
Perform tasks of substantial variety or complexity, which require knowledge of processing techniques, tools, materials, machines and equipment relative to salt mining.
Opportunities to operate equipment and perform other duties in mining and plant functions.
Perform daily equipment checks, minor service maintenance and assist in equipment repairs under supervision of mechanic.
Must be able to cross-train and multi-task with varied skill-sets and functions.
Communicate with supervisor and others as warranted, regarding the safe completion of assigned tasks. Communicate with management any situation that may affect safety of any employee or other issues that affect production or quality of product.
Inspect finished work and ensures required specifications are met.
Inspect and perform daily routine housekeeping as necessary to ensure a clean and safe work area.
Completes assigned paperwork accurately & reporting during and at the end of shift. Keeps accurate records of mining data.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

High school diploma/ GED preferred.
Prefer demonstrated mechanical and electrical skills.
Must have demonstrated problem-solving skills.
High degree of attention required to prevent injury to self and coworkers; promote a safe workplace.
Must be able to wear steel-toed shoes and safety glasses.
Prefer heavy equipment operation experience.
Must be able to speak, comprehend, and read English.
Must be able to work safely in varying temperatures in mine/warehouse workplace and outside year round.
Must be able to attend work on a regular schedule.
Must be able to lift and carry up to 25+ pounds regularly.
